Joint injections are a way of managing the inflammation, degradation of joint structures, and pain directly at the level of the joint. Our aim with joint injections is to decrease the need for pain medications, to restore health to the joint and to manage the local pathology of the joint structures (cartilage, joint capsule, ligaments, synovial fluid, etc). While the term “regenerative medicine” sounds great, it can be a little bit misleading – you can’t actually regenerate lost cartilage. What you can do, though, is decrease pain, decrease inflammation, improve function of the joint, and use fewer medications. There are various products that we can choose from to achieve these goals.
